Money Nails Design
FameClub Blog post #1
Did you know that in 1954 “fake nails” were invented by a dentist named Fred Slack? He managed to break his fingernail at work so he created an artificial realistic temporary replacement. After playing around with different products to perfect his creation, he and his brother, Tom, patented a successful version and started the company Patti Nails.

Money Nails go back in time to around the 2000s. Since the style has been passed down through the years not everyone does money nails the same. There’s no “correct way to do it” , the final product is what matters over the process to get them done 😩. When wanting that realistic texture of an actual dollar I would recommend using real money. The ink from fake money bleeds when placed over nail glue and it bleeds even worse when acrylic is applied. Real Money doesn’t bleed at all.
Leaving the clear encapsulation of the dollar bill very crisp and art like.
If you’re going for a more animated version of money I would recommend using money nail stickers ( https://amzn.to/3lpqHh1 ). It’s also a good alternative for those that don’t want to cut up real money.. usually I just ask my client ahead of time to bring a dollar for me to chop up and they have no problem with it, especially if they truly want the design.
STEPS FOR MONEY NAIL DESIGNS
Step 1- prep natural nails for tips. Normally I prep the nail with my drill and fine sanding bits (https://amzn.to/3rXpqA4 ). You want to make sure all of the natural nail oils are removed, this way the money can really stick to the surface. You know all oils are removed when the nail is like an ashy textured look.

Step 2- Apply clear tips (https://amzn.to/3cHGSlK ) to the nails that will have money. If the entire set isn’t going to be full of money, you don’t have to apply clear tips to all of the nails. You want to have a clear base because it brings out the outline of the money more. Also having a clear base leaves room for extra designs such as foil and glitter or even marble and ombre.
